New York - Adding to the troubles plaguing Take-Two Interactive's violent "Manhunt 2" game, which has been banned in Britain and Ireland and this week received an "Adults Only" rating from the U.S. Entertainment Software Ratings Board (ESRB), Sony and Nintendo have confirmed that they will no longer support publication of the game for their various platforms, GameSpot reported.

The game had been slated for release on July 10 for Sony's PlayStation 2 and PSP, and Nintendo's Wii.

"It's currently our policy not to allow the playback of AO-rated content on our systems," a Sony spokesperson told GameSpot.

New York-based Take-Two, which also publishes the controversial "Grand Theft Auto" game franchise, now faces options including appealing the game's AO rating to the ESRB, changing the game's content to acquire a less-restrictive rating, or perhaps limiting distribution to the PC.
