Dulles, Va. - AOL said that it will sell its Seattle-based Tegic Communications unit, which develops embedded software for mobile devices, to Massachusetts-based Nuance Communications for $265 million in cash.

Dick Parsons, the chairman and CEO of Time Warner, AOL's parent, called the sale "another step" in helping AOL focus on its core assets.

"It's more important than ever that AOL's resources are fully aligned behind growing its worldwide advertising businesses," said Parsons.

The acquisition will expand Nuance's presence in the mobile industry.

Tegic's predictive text input software has shipped on more than 2.5 billion wireless devices. The deal is expected to close by September.
