New York - Video game publisher Take-Two Interactive has temporarily suspended the release of "Manhunt 2," its violent game that has been preemptively banned in Britain and Ireland, and given an "Adults Only" rating in the U.S. that prompted Sony and Nintendo to prohibit the title's publication for its consoles, Next-Gen reported.

"Take-Two Interactive Software has temporarily suspended plans to distribute Manhunt 2 for the Wii or PlayStation platforms while it reviews its options with regard to the recent decisions made by the BBFC and ESRB," a Take-Two spokesperson told Next-Gen.

"We continue to stand behind this extraordinary game. We believe in freedom of creative expression, as well as responsible marketing, both of which are essential to our business of making great entertainment."

Take-Two now faces options including appealing the game's U.S. rating, changing the game's content to acquire a less-restrictive rating, or opting for PC-only distribution.

"Manhunt 2" was initially slated for release next month for Sony PlayStation 2 and PSP, and Nintendo Wii.
