New York - Brilliant Technologies, which is developing an ad-supported, legal peer-to-peer music download service called Qtrax, has now secured licensing deals from all four major labels and will launch its service in October, the New York Post reported on Monday.
The new deal -- assumedly with Universal Music -- comes two months after Qtrax brokered an agreement with Sony BMG; the company already had deals in place with EMI Music, Warner Music Group, and all the majors' respective publishing arms.
The article states that Brilliant Technologies will also spin-off Qtrax so that it may be publicly traded, merging it with a shell company called Flooring Zone.
Brilliant Technologies CEO Allan Klepfisz told the Post he expects Qtrax will offer access to between 20 million and 30 million songs at launch.
