P2P Search Engine TorrentSpy to Implement Copyright Filter

San Francisco - TorrentSpy, a search engine that provides links to media files available for download on the BitTorrent file-sharing network, and is defending against a copyright lawsuit from the Motion Picture Association of America (MPAA), has announced plans to implement a filter to weed out copyrighted content, CNET News.com reported.

The proprietary FileRights automated filtering system removes links to infringing works from search engine customers that subscribe to the service.

"With FileRights we used the community networking power of the Web to automate and aggregate the entire copyright filtration process," TorrentSpy co-founder Justin Bunnell told News.com.

"Torrentspy now uses the FileRights cooperative filtering process to filter search results on its popular search engine."

The federal judge presiding over the movie studios' lawsuit against the company recently ordered TorrentSpy to begin storing RAM data on users stored on its servers.

The company is appealing that decision; TorrentSpy attorney Ira Rothken told News.com the company would likely shut down U.S. TorrentSpy access before disclosing its users' personal information.
