Director of Privacy Online - ESRB - New York, NY

This Director-level position at the Entertainment Software Rating Board (ESRB) is responsible for managing and developing the Privacy Online Program, including: representing the Program with consumers, government and industry; advising on best practices for data collection to the entertainment software industry; overseeing privacy certification and monitoring; engaging in enforcement efforts where required; and pursuing new business opportunities. Reports directly to the SVP, Legal Affairs.

DIRECTOR OF PRIVACY ONLINE

Duties and Responsibilities:

·       Proposes and implements policies of the Privacy Online Program
·       Advises participating companies on Program requirements and best practices in online data collection
·       Tracks and updates members on legislative developments and initiatives
·       Manages membership renewals to ensure maximum retention of existing customers
·       Enlists new companies for participation in Privacy Online Program
·       Conducts initial onsite audit and training sessions for member companies
·       Oversees compliance and enforcement for Privacy Online
·       Manages Privacy Online Program’s annual operating budget
·       Engages in activities designed to promote and increase the visibility of the Program
·       Updates management on trends and developments in industry data collection and recommends Program modifications where desirable
·       Supervises Certification and Compliance Manager and part-time monitors
·       Reviews and approves responses to consumer inquiries or complaints

Other Responsibilities:

·       Acts as liaison between ESRB Privacy Online and Federal Trade Commission attorneys
·       Acts as liaison between ESRB Privacy Online and Department of Commerce regarding the European Union Privacy Safe Harbor Framework
·       Prepares materials and updates for the Board of Directors regarding the POL program
·       Oversees maintenance and updating of privacy section of ESRB website

Special Skills Required:

·       Strong knowledge of privacy laws, including COPPA, the EU Privacy Safe Harbor Framework, and other federal and state privacy laws
·       Ability to apply legal principles to real-world business circumstances
·       Ability to effectively supervise

Educational/Experience Requirements:

·       Bachelor's degree
·       JD or MBA preferred
·       3+ years relevant work experience
