Dulles, Va. - AOL said on Thursday that it has released a test version of its free, Web-based e-mail service integrated with the AIM instant messenger, allowing users to simultaneously email and IM from the same screen.

AOL also said that it has released a new widget that will allow bloggers, website owners and consumers with social networking profiles to instant message anonymously with site visitors.

Kevin Conroy, an executive vice president at AOL, said that the goal of the two releases is to make "it easier for people to communicate online without opening multiple applications."
