An opportunity to join a team focused on fostering business development between the United States and the United Kingdom in the fields of entertainment, media, digital content and related technologies.

Applications are invited for the position of Trade & Investment Officer, Creative, Media and Entertainment Technologies, at the British Consulate General San Francisco.

Job Summary

UK Trade & Investment (UKTI) is the United Kingdom Government’s international business development agency, charged with developing UK exports and attracting investment into the UK. (See www.uktradeinvest.gov.uk & www.tradeinvestusa.com).

The advertised post is a Trade & Investment (T&I) Officer, based in the British Consulate General San Francisco and reporting to the Head of UKTI San Francisco. Working as part of an integrated T&I team covering Northern California, Oregon, Washington State, Alaska, Montana, Wyoming, Idaho and No. Nevada the Officer will focus on Creative, Media and Entertainment Technologies.  These sectors include videogames, music, film & TV, animation, design, broadcasting, digital content and related technologies.

Job Objectives

1) To attract, retain and add value to UK inward investment from the United States.
2) To advise and support UK companies seeking to export to, and develop business in, the United States.

Duties and Responsibilities

Within Creative, Media and Entertainment Technology sectors, the successful applicant will:

- Provide support to US companies considering establishing or expanding a UK investment, with a particular focus on projects that are innovative, R&D-driven, and/or knowledge (IP) driven.
- Cultivate relationships with US companies with the potential to become UK investors and/or buyers of UK products, services, and creative talent.
- Build UK market awareness and generate investment leads by developing and implementing marketing programs, identifying and delivering key sponsorship activities, and participating in industry events.
- Sell and deliver UKTI’s fee-based export assistance services to UK clients.  Services include identifying business opportunities, compiling market research, producing reports, creating meeting programs, advising and mentoring, and managing events.
- Design and execute missions and events with the goal of developing business opportunities for UK companies.
- Report on key technology developments and trends that affect the creation and distribution of entertainment content, and/or influence the development and implementation of UKTI strategy.
- Establish and manage relationships with senior business leaders, key associations, and multipliers.
- Track, evaluate, and report on outcomes of activities and initiatives.
- Manage one Business Development Associate.

Required Skills/Experience

- All candidates must have a pre-existing legal status to live and work in the US, and will be subject to background checks and security clearance.
- The candidate will be educated to degree level, with at least four years relevant experience.
- The candidate will have a strong understanding of both the US and UK business environments.
- The successful candidate will have sound knowledge of the Creative & Media and Digital Entertainment sectors, including strong knowledge in at least one of the following sub-sectors: Video Games, Music, Film & Television, Design and Broadcasting.
