Buzz Watch: 'DVD Jon' Claims To Have Cracked iPhone Activation

The infamous Norwegian hacker Jon Lech Johansen, known as "DVD Jon," claims to have cracked Apple's iPhone activation. This means that iPhone buyers will be able to activate and use the new handset without having to go to  AT&T Wireless. Potential iPhone consumers expressed their main concern being forced to use AT&T's network in a recent DMW poll and a brigade of hackers have been hard at work on cracking the service lock on the device.

Johansen announced his feat in a blog post today entitled "iPhone Independence Day." In his latest effort, DVD Jon has detailed a Windows workaround that he claimed will allow the iPhone to be used as a widescreen iPod and Internet communicator. But there is a big "but" here: The cracked iPhone can't be used to make calls on any other network with this workaround.

"I've found a way to activate a brand new unactivated iPhone without giving any of your money or personal information to AT&T," Johansen wrote on his "So sue me" blog. "The iPhone does not have phone capability, but the iPod and Wi-Fi work."

huh? its non sense then - iphone is not an iphone without its phone capability.... i can call it as 7th gen ipod

better an 7th gen ipod with wifi than nothing so yeah let me get this again . . . . . your the guy that cracked the coke recipe right???
