Sony: No PlayStation 3 Price Cut in the Works
/ July 6, 2007 4:33 pm

Tokyo - Despite calls from consumers and some game developers and publishers, Sony currently has no plans to lower the price of its PlayStation 3 video game console, which has been in third place in sales among the top three consoles across the past several months, Reuters reported.

"At present we have no plans [to cut the price]," Sony presidet Ryoji Chubachi told Reuters. "If you take a look at how PlayStation and PlayStation 2 have taken off, this is not such an unusual start."

The company did recently say that over 380 new games scheduled for release yet this year should help boost demand.

In related news, Sony has issued a public apology in the U.K. over its "Resistance: Fall of Man" game, which features a shootout inside an Anglican cathedral.

The company did not address the Church of England's requests that the game be pulled from the market.

  • “In a press release issued tonight, Sony has confirmed that the 60GB PlayStation 3 has received a $100 dollar price drop, making for a retail price of $499 and is effective as of now. Taking its place at the $599 dollar price point is a new (to America anyway) 80GB model. The new model, however, will not be available in stores until this August, though no specific date was mentioned. The 80GB model will also come packed with the off-road racer, Motorstorm.”
