Los Angeles - Five individuals were arrested over the weekend for attempting to bring camcorders or cell phone cameras into theaters to pirate the Dreamworks film "Transformers," according to a joint statement from the Motion Picture Association of America (MPAA) and National Association of Theatre Owners (NATO).

Suspects were arrested in California, Florida, Georgia, Illinois and New York.

"These arrests serve as a reminder to potential movie thieves that whether you use a camcorder or a cell phone, stealing movies off the silver screen is a crime and you will be arrested and prosecuted to the fullest extent of the law," said MPAA chairman and CEO Dan Glickman.

Under recently enacted laws that make videotaping movies in theaters a crime, the defendants will variously face up to a year in jail and fines of up to $10,000.

Not good

well, it is quite obvious that these new State Laws are unconstitional. It is also quite obvious that this is why it is a State Law and not a Federal Law passed down by Congress. Under the First Sale Doctrine and Fair Use you can make a copy of any movie you watch and you can also sell the First Copy or do whatever you want with it. In the case of Transformers, I am sure most people that made a copy would just throw it out, because the movie was terrible, and the reviews were even worse. This is usually the biggest reason the movie makers cry about copyright infringement. The entire concept of the new Piracy Law is unconstitional. What are they going to do next? Are they going to say we should have a law that permits us to kill someone because we think they are going to kill someone? And the scary part is, these Piracy Theories are coming from the same industry that tried to ban VCRs and Blank Video Tapes. We can only hope that Congress gets fed-up with Hollywood's crying about pivacy and throws the entire concept out the window. Because the movies are getting worse and worse, and the makers are getting richer and richer
