Sony to Release Slimmer, Lighter PSP

Tokyo - Sony Computer Entertainment on Thursday announced plans to release a slimmer, lighter version of its PSP handheld game system that also adds a video-out port.

Sony said the new PSP is 33% lighter and 19% slimmer than the original version, and that the video port will support playback of UMD Video, and pictures and movies stored on Memory Stick Duo and game software titles on their home TVs.

The new PSP will go on sale in September in Japan, North America and Europe.

The company added that 25 million PSP units, and 100 million games for the handheld have now shipped since its introduction in December 2004.
