New York - Major record label Sony BMG announced on Monday the formation of a joint venture with Dada, a provider of Web and mobile community and entertainment services, that will create a direct-to-consumer mobile and Web entertainment service.

Dada Entertainment's ownership will be split evenly between Dada and Sony BMG, and the company will be led by current Dada USA chief executive Massimiliano Pellegrini.

The service will initially be offered in the U.S., and provide ringtones, full-track downloads, images, video ringers, mobile games, in addition to community features such as photo- and video-sharing, dating, blogs and social networking.

While Sony BMG will provide its content catalog, Dada will also obtain content from other providers.

The site will derive revenue through advertising, subscriptions and a la carte download sales.

"This joint venture will provide us with an important platform to further expand artists' presence in the mobile and web space, give consumers greater flexibility in how they consume music, and build the market for mobile and web entertainment in the U.S.," said Thomas Hesse, Sony BMG's president of global digital business and U.S. sales.
