Basking Ridge, N.J. - One-third of Americans say they intend to purchase an Apple iPhone, with 8% planning to buy one in the next three months and 22% saying they'll get one "some time in the future," according to an online survey of 39,000 Americans conducted by Lightspeed Research.

Nearly 90% of respondents had heard of the iPhone.

Younger respondents were more likely to be planning iPhone purchases, as 40% of those ages 18-24 said they will buy an iPhone, followed by 25-34 year olds (36%) and 35-44 year olds (33%).

Among those surveyed who had already purchased an iPhone, 45% were 25-34, 26% were 18-24 and 20% were 35-44.

Lightspeed Research also cited a July 5 survey of 34,000 respondents, in which nearly half who said they wanted an iPhone stated that the benefits of having music, movie, Internet and wireless all in one was the top reason.
