Washingtonpost.com Goes Hyperlocal with Launch of LoudounExtra.com

Washington - Washingtonpost.com on Monday launched LoudounExtra.com, a new site featuring community-level news and events focused on Loudoun County, Virginia. Geared toward local residents, businesses and organizations, the site signals the Post's entry into the market for hyperlocal content, just as Vienna-based Backfence, which ran 13 hyperlocal sites in the DC, San Francisco and Chicago areas, has decided to shutter its operations. The site makes use of user-generated content, including photos and video, to enhance traditional reporting.
