Russian Court Reinstates Visa Payments at Alltunes Download Store

London - Russian music download store Alltunes has won a court case that will reinstate payments from a Russian agent of credit card provider Visa on the service, TheRegister reported.

A Moscow court ruled that Rosbank Visa broke contract and acted illegally when it cut off payments to the store, as "the decision on whether copyright has been violated or not can only be taken by court based on a suit filed by exclusive copyright holders, but neither IFPI nor Visa own such rights."

Both Visa and MasterCard blocked all payments to download stores operated by Mediaservices -- including AllofMP3 and Alltunes -- after the International Federation of the Phonographic Industry (IFPI) said the sites violate copyrights.

"This decision is taken on a narrow point of Russian contract law and does not in any way legalize Alltunes which is flagrantly violating copyright laws in Russia and elsewhere," the IFPI told TheRegister.

"Visa has made it clear it is committed to ensuring that illegal transactions do not take place on its networks. Meanwhile the criminal actions already bought in Russia against those behind Alltunes are continuing."
