Buzz Watch: Gartner Hype Cycle has Convergent Mobile Phones and Network DVRs on the Rise

The IT-analysts at Gartner recently released the latest version of its "hype cycle" - a graph which charts how technologies are built up and adopted. It has convergent telephones, Network DVRs, ultramobile devices and "portable personality" on the rise up to the "peak of inflated expectations" while IPTV, mobile TV and broadband video on demand are heading towards the bottom.

The UK newspaper The Guardian has a picture of the graph on its site that you can check out if you want to see where Gartner has some of the other media and entertainment technologies in the 2007 hype cycle. It is very different from the 2006 hype cycle.

The Hype cycle has five stages: Technology Trigger; The Peak of Inflated Expectations. The Trough of Disillusionment; Slope of Enlightenment and The Plateau of Productivity. If you are interested in finding out more, read this blog on IT Business Edge.
