Palo Alto, Calif. - In its first-ever acquisition, social networking site Facebook said that it has acquired Parakey, a Mountain View, Calif.-based startup run by Blake Ross and Joe Hewitt, the co-founders of open-source Web browser Mozilla Firefox.

Financial terms of the deal were not disclosed.

Ross and Hewitt will join Facebook to work on the development of the company's platform, as well as its website.

Firefox has been downloaded more than 300 million times since its inception.

Hewitt went on to build popular Web development tools such as Firebug, and in early 2006 again teamed with Ross to found Parakey, developer of a Web-based interface designed to make it easier for people to transfer content from their desktop to the Internet.
