U. of Kansas Institutes "One-Strike" Policy for Campus Downloaders

Los Angeles - The University of Kansas has instituted a "one-strike" policy for campus music downloaders, in response to letters threatening litigation against students sent to the university by the Recording Industry Association of America (RIAA), Ars Technica reported. The new policy permanently bans students from residence hall networks after one instance of illegal file-sharing is reported; students may continue to use campus computer labs. "If you are caught downloading copyrighted material, you will lose your ResNet privileges forever," reads a note from the school. "No second notices, no excuses, no refunds. One violation and your ResNet internet access is gone for as long as you reside on campus."
