Newark, N.J. - Telecom and investment firm IDT Corp.'s Internet Mobile Group said on Wednesday that it has formed Zedge Studios, which will develop and license digital content for distribution through Web and mobile platforms.

The unit also announced its acquisition of a controlling interest in IDW Publishing, an independent publisher of horror, action and sci-fi comics. Financial terms of the transaction were not disclosed.

IDT acquired mobile social networking community and free mobile content provide Zedge in December 2006.

Zedge Studios will develop, acquire and finance content for distribution on multiple channels, including Zedge.net; content offered will include versions of IDW's titles, such as "30 Days of Night," "The Transformers" and "Star Trek."
