Digital Entertainment Studio Worldwide Biggies Gets $9 Million

New York - Worldwide Biggies Inc., a New York-based digital entertainment studio focused on content for kids and families, has raised $9 million in its first round of venture capital financing, co-led by NBC Universal and Platform Equity.

Hearst Corporation, Greycroft Partners and Prism VentureWorks also participated.

Worldwide Biggies is led by Albie Hecht, a former president of Nickelodeon Entertainment and Spike TV who also produced films such as "Lemony Snicket's Series of Unfortunate Events" and "The SpongeBob SquarePants Movie."

The company will produce content ranging from community games and webisode series, to a "new breed of gaming called gametoons."

Worldwide Biggies also said it signed a first-look deal with NBC Universal, for any properties that are developed for film, TV, theatrical, home video, merchandising or games; NBC Universal will also sell ads for all existing and future content from the company.

Current projects include Web shorts and podcasts based on Nickelodeon's "The Naked Brothers Band"; WorldwideFido.com, a site for user-generated dog videos; and StarVsStar.com, an online game that marries fantasy sports and celebrity scandal.
