New York - Cable TV provider Time Warner Cable will soon debut a new service that lets subscribers record TV shows and view them later that day for free, but without the ability to fast-forward through commercials, The New York Times reported.

The company will begin offering the "Look Back" service initially to subscribers in South Carolina in October, then gradually roll it out in other markets.

Time Warner also offers another free digital video recorder-like feature, Start Over, in six of its 23 markets.

Launched in 2005, Start Over lets viewers restart a program already in progress from the beginning, up to 30 minutes into the program -- and also prohibits ad-skipping.

Time Warner plans to add the Start Over feature in another eight markets by March 2008.
