New York - Lime Wire, the company that distributes the LimeWire peer-to-peer file-sharing application, has announced plans to open a digital music store.

The store will initially be a standalone website, simply linked to through the file-sharing software, but the company promised subsequent releases will enable users to browse and purchase music directly from within the LimeWire application.

IRIS Distribution and Nettwerk Productions have signed on to provide their tracks for sale through the store, which will offer MP3 format downloads both a la carte and via monthly subscription plans.

New York-based Lime Wire was also sued last year by the RIAA for copyright infringement -- meaning major label songs are not likely to be soon offered on its new music store.
