Bath, U.K. - Exabre, the developer of a music recommendation service called The Filter, has received $5 million in new funding, led by musician Peter Gabriel and Eden Ventures, The Independent reported.

Bath, U.K.-based The Filter monitors what a user is listening to in iTunes or other players, and makes recommendations and builds playlists based on preferences -- similar to applications such as iLike and Last.fm.

Since launching the application in the fourth quarter of 2006, the company said it has attracted 150,000 users, and is adding 25,000 a month.

Exabre will use the funds to expand The Filter's reach to include television and film content, aiming to launch a wider recommendation service next year.
