The Official Rules of the HotOrNot Drinking Game

A 7.6 on Hot Or NotHere’s how HotOrNot works: You rate a photo of a male or female on a scale of 1-10, but you don’t see the average rating until the next photo, which automatically appears after you vote.  You also see how many votes have been cast, and how many minutes (or hours) it’s been since the person who posted it has checked his or her score.  The site’s business strategy – like it or not, agree with it or not – is highly effective.  HotOrNot has, according to Alexa, an incomprehensible 10.4 pages viewed per visitor (something you’ll come to understand after giving it a try).  The site’s also, according to Alexa, the 286th most popular in the US.  But what many don’t know about is the HotOrNot Drinking Game (detailed below), soon to be a worldwide phenomenon as it emerges from underground status.  Here are the rules:

Game play requires 2-4 players, but infinitely more can be added (Suggestion: In the event of 5 or more players, create teams).

The scoring system goes as follows:

·        One player or team begins by rating a photo.  The settings must be dialed to “Men and Women of Any Age,” which means that males will occasionally have to rate males, and females will occasionally have to rate females.

·         To score one (1) point, you must guess the photo’s overall score within +/- 0.2 points.

·         Guessing the photo’s exact overall score results in three (3) points.

·         1 point = Your opponent(s) take one (1) chug of their drink

·         3 points = Your opponent(s) consume(s) half a cup

·         When 10 points are accumulated, another half cup is consumed

Note: For the sake of everyone’s safety, red Solo cups are recommended

Note: Avoid hard alcohol when playing

Other ways to earn points:

·        In the event that your opponent scores, you may double down on your next photo by guessing the amount of time it has been since the person who submitted the photo has checked his or her score.  Aside from being perhaps the most entertaining aspect of the game, you can score three (3) points by guessing +/- 1 hour within the correct time, resulting in the consumption of half a cup by your opponent.  However, if you’re incorrect, you must drink half a cup.

·        You’ll notice many military personnel post photos on HotOrNot.  Before the game begins, you may guess the amount of such photos that you’ll get for every ten that you face.  You earn one (1) point for each correct guess.  Every incorrect guess is a point against you.

Note: As the game progresses, tracking scores becomes increasingly difficult.  This is fine and normal, and should not cause alarm.  You may begin from zero (0) at the request of 2/3 of the players without any penalties being incurred.
