San Francisco - AKQA, a San Francisco-based digital advertising firm, has acquired digital marketing firm Searchrev, the Wall Street Journal reported.

While financial terms of the deal were not disclosed, the Journal said the price paid was "relatively small," as Palo Alto, Calif.-based Searchrev's annual revenue is under $10 million.

AKQA plans to create the nation's largest independent digital marketing agency, competing in the space with firms like iCrossing and aQuantive, which was recently acquired by Microsoft for $6 billion.

"I think eventually we will be a very attractive company to be public," AKQA chief executive Tom Bedecarre told the Journal. "We are growing fast in a fast category."

Both AKQA and Searchrev count Coca-Cola as a client; Searchrev also serves Yahoo, while AKQA's client roster includes Visa, Nike and McDonald's.
