New York - uPlayMe, the developer of a desktop application that automatically connects people through shared tastes in music, movies and other content, announced on Wednesday that it has raised a "multi-million dollar" round of funding, from investors including Warner Music Group, Village Ventures and others.

New York-based uPlayMe is developing an entertainment-based social network that will match members in real-time, based on their recently played songs and videos.

"uPlayMe will be an important resource for Warner Music to leverage as we continue to strengthen our digital offerings," said Alex Zubillaga, executive vice president of digital strategy and business development for WMG.

"uPlayMe will enable us to have a deeper relationship with consumers, as well as drive additional discovery of our artists."

The funds will be used to accelerate the company's product and service development, and bolster distribution of its application.
