San Francisco - The top ten online game publishers in Asia generated more than $2 billion in revenue last year, a figure expected to exceed $2.5 billion by 2008, according to a report from market research firm Pearl Research.

The firm identified Asia's top ten online game publishers as CJ Internet, NCsoft, Neowiz, Netease, NHN, Perfect World, Shanda, Soft-World, Tencent and The9.

The growth has been spurred by a rapid rise in Internet and PC penetration -- the region now counts more than 400 million Internet users -- in addition to increasing urbanization.

Ten online game publishers crossed the $100 million revenue mark in 2006, and 13 are expected to by 2008, according to Pearl.
