Sterling, Va. - Anystream, a provider of technology for the distribution of digital content, said that it has paid an undisclosed sum to acquire Australia-based Lectopia, a developer of technology that makes the audio and video of university lectures available to students online.

The company said that it has combined Lectopia with its own higher education division, known as Apreso, and relaunched the combined entity as Echo360 in a bid to formally separate its media and education units.

The news comes a week after Anystream named Fred Singer, a former senior executive of AOL Studios and founder of WashingtonPost.com, as its new CEO.

"Echo360 enters the market with over 1,000 installed classrooms and more than 30% of its business overseas," said Singer.

Earlier this year, the company announced that it raised $7 million in a round of funding and acquired New York-based Cauldron Solutions.
