Los Angeles - Movie production company CP Productions plans to create a feature-length film based on the Midway Games classic arcade title, "Joust," GameDaily.biz reported.

The script from writer Marc Gottlieb was dubbed "Gladiator meets Mad Max" by producer Michael Cerenzie ("Blackout," "Black Water Transit").

"We took one element of the game and the brand itself and built a whole new world around it for the film," Cerenzie told GameDaily.biz.

"We've updated the game into a commercial, tent pole movie. Marc has done an amazing job in creating a tantalizing and filmic world based on the original game."

CP Productions, whose principals also include producer Christine Peters ("Area 51," "How to Lose a Guy in 10 Days"), also plan to launch a graphic novel based on the "Joust" screenplay, which will be created by Steven Elliot Altman, of DC Comics and Dark Horse Comics.

The movie is slated to finish production by June 2008.
