Finnish Court Says Teen Libeled Teacher With YouTube Clip

Helsinki - A court in Finland has found a 15-year-old guilty of libel, for posting a YouTube clip of his teacher singing karaoke at a school event with the added English-language subtitle, "Karaoke of the mental hospital," Reuters reported.

In the first such ruling of its kind in the country, the student was ordered to pay about $1,085 in damages and a fine of about $122.

The teacher had sought $2,700 in damages, but the award was reduced because the defendant was a minor, and because the student removed the clip within two weeks of receiving a request from the school's principal.
