Mountain View, Calif. - George Reyes will retire as the chief financial officer of Google, the company said on Tuesday.

Reyes, who joined Google in 2002 after serving as the interim CFO of ONI Systems, will remain at the company through its search for a replacement.

Google expects the transition to be complete by year's end.

Earlier in his career, Reyes spent 13 years at Sun Microsystems, where he worked with current Google Chairman and CEO Eric Schmidt.

"He has done an excellent job in keeping us financially disciplined while protecting the best of our entrepreneurial culture," said Google co-founder Larry Page.
