New York - The online video joint venture between News Corp. and NBC Universal has been given a name, "Hulu," and will launch in a private beta test version in October, the companies said on Wednesday.

The site was conceived as something of an alternative to YouTube, that will feature licensed TV and movie content from its founding partners and others, and distribute the video on partner sites including AOL, Comcast, MSN, MySpace and Yahoo.

Hulu CEO Jason Kilar said in a note on the venture's website that the name was chosen because it is "short, easy to spell, easy to pronounce, and rhymes with itself."

Hulu spokeswoman Christina Lee told the Associated Press the company is still talking to other potential media partners, and has not yet decided when the site will officially launch after the beta test.
