London - Google's YouTube has reached a deal with U.K. copyright societies for the rights to use some 10 million pieces of music in videos posted on the site, the Financial Times reported.

YouTube paid an undisclosed flat fee to the MCPS-PRS Alliance, which represents some 50,000 songwriters, composers and music publishers.

Andrew Shaw, managing director of broadcast and online for the MCPS-PRS Alliance, told FT.com the group is still deciding how to distribute revenues to its members, and working with YouTube on how to monitor airplay of its artists on the service.
