Buzz Watch: Nokia N81, Pop4Real and the Birth of ‘SponsPop’

Authored by Jay Baage on August 31, 2007 - 4:13am.
In a new vital marketing campaign – Nokia introduces the world to the band Pop4Real in a push for their upcoming N81 “iPhone killer.” According to the official Pop4Real site, the band was founded in the early 90's as part of the boyband craze and had numerous #1 hit singles (within the sub-genre, 'spons pop'). Renowned producer and manager Aaron Spector brought together these six young men to form the now legendary constellation who are here again, with the new single 'N81' embedded below.

I have blogged about the iPhone spoof pop video “Dontcha Wish Your Cell Phone Was Hot Like Me?” created by the people behind Geek Entertainment TV, but Pop4Real takes it all one step further. Both the video, the site as well as the song has the look, sound and feel of the real thing. The band also embraces new viral media by putting the video up on YouTube and they even have their own MySpace site. Check out the documentary about the band below.
