Facebook Asks Judge to Toss Suit From Rival Social Network ConnectU

New York - Facebook has asked a judge to throw out a lawsuit filed against it by ConnectU, a rival social network that claims Facebook was created from code stolen from ConnectU's creators, the Boston Globe reported on Friday.

Cambridge, Mass.-based ConnectU and founder Cameron Winklevoss sued Facebook in March, claiming that code used to create Facebook was developed jointly by Winklevoss and Facebook founder Mark Zuckerberg, among others, while they were all were attending Harvard.

In its motion to dismiss the case, filed in U.S. District Court in Boston, Facebook says that ConnectU's complaint "contains a litany of unrelated facts and legal theories that fail to identify what role the individual defendants have played in any wrongdoing or violation of ConnectU's rights."

The companies have been sparring since 2003, when ConnectU initially filed suit against Facebook; that case was dismissed on procedural grounds.

For its part, Facebook has also sued ConnectU in federal court in San Jose, Calif., claiming the company used Facebook members' accounts to gain information and get them to join ConnectU.
