Miss South Carolina & Appalachian State's Week to Remember

Miss South Carolina will be an ASU student...not the ASU you're thinking ofApologies to the University of Michigan, its fans, and its football team: I know you want the nightmare to end.  And apologies to Lauren Caitlin Upton (aka, Miss South Carolina): Your video has been viewed on YouTube nearly 13 million times (see it here again).  But it’s worth mentioning: Did anyone have a better week than Appalachian State University?  First it’s announced that Miss South Carolina will be a freshman at your school in the fall.  Then you pull off the biggest upset in the history of college football by beating Michigan, ranked #5 in the country at the time, 34-32 at the Big House.  Certainly a week to remember for all involved.

I attended the Notre Dame-Georgia Tech football game in South Bend on Saturday, and when it was announced over the loudspeaker that Michigan had fallen to a Division I-AA football team, the woman in front of me, God bless her ignorant heart, said to anyone listening, “Where in the hell is Appalachian State?!”

Luckily we had an alum in the vicinity who set the record straight. “Boone, North Carolina, ma’am,” he said.

It shouldn’t be too hard to find the school now.  You can bet the admissions department will have its hands full this fall as YouTube fanboys try to get ever closer to the Miss Teen USA beauty who set fire to internet video records last week.

Where in the he-ll is South Bend?

Not to be outdone, this follow-up YouTube piece is drawing some nice numbers as well--almost 1/2 a million today: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=RQc6oBCuDXk Was the woman who made the comment a Notre Dame fan? Hopefully she wasn't talking too much smack based on the way her Fightin' Irish battled on Saturday.
