Virtual World Software Provider Media Machines Raises $9.4 Million

San Francisco - Media Machines, a provider of 3D virtual world creation software and services, has raised $9.4 million in its first round of venture capital financing, PEHub.com reported, citing a regulatory filing.

The investment was led by Mohr Davidow Ventures.

San Francisco-based Media Machines was founded in 2003 by Tony Parisi, co-creator of the Virtual Reality Modeling Language (VRML) and X3D.

The company offers a free 3D virtual world Web browser plug-in, the Flux Player, that lets users manipulate virtual scenes, worlds, avatars, gadgets and games in a standard browser, as well as professional Web 3D authoring software and services.
