Microsoft Cuts $50 Off Price of Zune Media Player

Redmond, Wash. - Microsoft on Wednesday announced that it will cut $50 off the price of its 30GB Zune digital media player, which will now sell for $199.

The announcement was somewhat overshadowed by Apple's introduction on Wednesday of several new iPods, including a model that features a touch-sensitive screen, and Wi-Fi connectivity -- a feature also offered on the Zune.

The company noted in a post on its Zune Insider blog that customer satisfaction for the Zune is around 94%.

The device has accounted for around 10% of hard drive-based MP3 player sales in the U.S. in recent months, according to sales data from NPD Group.
