San Francisco - Online retail giant Amazon.com is set to introduce its own e-book reader device next month that can connect wirelessly with the company's online e-book store, The New York Times reported on Thursday.

The Kindle will feature a screen made by E Ink, a maker of flexible displays that use "electronic ink," as well as a keyboard, for taking notes or navigating the Web, and will cost between $400 and $500.

The Times also reported that Google plans to begin charging for full access to the online copies of some of the books in its online database.

Publishers will be able to set their own prices, and will share revenue with Google.

On the publisher side, Random House plans to increase its e-book catalog from 3,500 titles to around 6,500 by 2008.

"There has been an awful lot of energy around e-books in the last six to 12 months, and we are now making a lot more titles available," Matt Shatz, vice president for digital at Random House, told The Times.
