EU Antitrust Arm to Hold Hearing With Apple, Major Labels

Brussels - The European Commission will hold a hearing later this month at which executives from Apple and several major record labels will appear to discuss the Commission's charges that the iTunes Store might violate EU competition rules, Billboard reported.

Currently, European consumers can only purchase tracks from their home country's iTunes Store, which may offer different tracks and prices than those in neighboring countries.

At the closed hearing, Apple will be heard in separate sessions with Sony BMG, Universal Music and EMI Group, as each company signed separate and confidential contracts with Apple.

The hearing is scheduled to take place in Brussels on Sept. 19-20.
