Los Angeles - Platinum Studios, the owner and rightsholder to an independent library of comic book characters, announced on Monday that it has raised $5 million in a new round of equity financing, and has filed with the SEC for an initial public offering of shares.

The company's president and COO, Brian Altounian, led the $5 million investment.

Los Angeles-based Platinum Studios publishes about 40 comic books and graphic novels per year, including titles such as "Hero By Night" and "KISS 4K."

The company also operates DrunkDuck.com, a site that houses over 4,000 comics updated daily or weekly by their creators, and claims more than 32 million page views per month.

"Going to the public market should give us greater access to larger pools of capital and is expected to enable us to accelerate the growth of our company as we realize our model of full circle commercialization of these properties," said Platinum Studios president Brian Altounian.
