Kanye West says MTV Exploited Him & Britney Spears at VMAs

Kanye West & Britney Spears will soon form the duo The 2007 MTV Video Music Awards was one to remember, we already know.  And today Kanye West stoked the fire, saying on New York’s Z100 that MTV “exploited” him and Britney Spears.  Who says cat fights are relegated to women and high schoolers?  “They exploited Britney in helping her to end her career,” he said on the show.  So Kanye, if she wanted to end her career anyway, wouldn’t you say MTV did her a favor?  You can listen to the interview here.

Kanye West (now going by Mr. West) added, “When Britney was opening, near the end, I felt so bad for her.  I said, ‘Man, it’s a dirty game.’ This game will chew you up and spit you out.”

Hard to say exactly what MTV did, or could’ve done, to take Britney down.  By the look of it she did plenty on her own.  It’s also safe to assume Spears’ career is far from over.  In today’s entertainment world there’s no such thing as death.  Ask the Two Corey’s (Haim and Feldman) about that.

The sound of a star’s career ending?  Silence.  Britney’s “career-ending” night is hugely overblown.  She’s bigger today than she’s ever been.  And as long as she wants to hang out on Sunset Boulevard, and every other spot a paparazzi photog might be, she’ll be in the limelight.  There's also a pretty decent chance we'll be seeing some Reality BS (and yes, I've just purchased that as the show's title.  Bids start here).

As for Mr. West, what’s he complaining about?  On Entourage this season we found out that K-Dub is all about jumbo private planes and jetting off to Europe (stopping in Cannes at a moment’s notice, of course).  But no, MTV “betrayed” him, and he promised a K-Dub Ban on anything MTV.  Smart career choice, Mr. West.  Eliminate the only channel on television adequately reaching the lone market likely to buy your new album Graduation.

But although West chose to defend Spears in the interview, he seems to have taken exception to the fact she was chosen by MTV to open: "I wasn't mad that I just didn't win any awards," he said. "For me, (MTV) made it seem like performing on the main stage was a bad thing, and the suites were just so great. It was my dream when I made 'Stronger' to open up the VMAs with a real power performance.  And I just feel like I got betrayed by them.  I feel like they tried to make it seem like I was so into everything that was going on in the show."

JJ, the Z100 DJ that interview Mr. West, pointed out to the belittled superstar that he might be speaking too bluntly about the network that helped make his career.  "I have a connection in the fans' heart that the press can't stop."

True enough, Mr. West.  True e-nuff.

K-Dub's new album drops Tuesday.

news ive heard............

I have heard from sources that brit heard sarah silvermen rehearshing her act. (that protained to calling her kids mistakes) as you could tell during her preformace of her new single "Gimme more" that she wasnt focused, looked upset and was in a hurry to leave" Spears also asked before she went on stage that she cancell but mtv wouldnt allow so she had all the thoughts of Sarah Silverman and her unfunny act on her mind. Ask yourself a question...If someone planed to embarss you and your kids on national TELEVISION and live...but you couldn't do anything about it. WOULD YOU HONESTLY HAVE YOUR MIND ON YOUR PREFORMANCE?

Jarred, it's a fair point

Jarred, it's a fair point indeed, but I've heard the opposite: that Silverman didn't rehearse the monologue. Being familiar with Silverman's work, I'm inclined to believe her. She likes shock value and I don't think she'd want anyone...not even close friends...knowing what she was going to say. So until there's confirmation from others it's all speculation at this point. I've also heard another rumor that Britney intended to bomb, for whatever reason. That one seems plausible given the performance.
