Princeton, N.J. - U.S. mobile search advertising revenues are expected to increase at a compound annual growth rate of 112%, rising from $33.2 million this year to $1.4 billion in 2012, according to a report from market research firm The Kelsey Group.

The firm breaks down mobile search advertising into three segments: ad-sponsored directory assistance, or "Free 411"; mobile Internet ads viewed by consumers searching the mobile Web for information; and multi-modal applications, where carriers or consumers opt to put ad-supported search products like Tellme or V-Enable directly on mobile devices.

"Advertisers in the U.S. are the most aggressive in terms of messaging to potential U.S. consumers," said Matt Booth, senior vice president and program director for interactive local media for The Kelsey Group.

"Given the relatively high spend levels, we believe advertisers will continue to look into innovative solutions, including mobile, that demonstrate a clear ROI on ad spend."
