Emeryville, Calif. - Gracenote, a provider of music identification and mobile music services, announced on Thursday that it has acquired technology assets from Musicphone, a provider of mobile music recognition technology.

Financial terms of the transaction were not disclosed.

The deal expands Gracenote's mobile music ID technology to all major mobile carriers and handset makers, adding AT&T and Virgin Mobile USA in the U.S.

The technology allows mobile users to dial a short code, hold their phone up to any source playing music, and have the song playing identified and sent to their phones.

Outside the U.S., Emeryville, Calif.-based Gracenote also powers mobile music services for KDDI in Japan, SKT and KTF in Korea, and France Telecom/Orange in Europe.

The company said it expects to process more than 25 million mobile music ID searches this year.
