Report: Amazon May Launch MP3 Store on Tuesday

Denver - Online retail giant Amazon is presenting results of testing of its new MP3 store to CEO Jeff Bezos, and if approved, will launch the service on Tuesday, Billboard reported, citing a "well-placed source."

The service could also be delayed for further testing.

Amazon's store will sell songs exclusively in the MP3 format, initially offering tracks from independents, and major labels EMI and Universal Music; Sony BMG and Warner Music don't currently offer tracks without digital rights management.

Songs will be sold for a range of prices -- a factor that has been a thorn in negotiations between Apple and the majors -- where new releases will cost more that library tracks.
