"She went when she finished her tour, for the summer," Shakira's manager Fifi Kurzman said.

Apparently the 30-year-old Shakira, who released her first album at 14, has long been self-taught, taking tutorials on the history of countries she visits, and studying their languages.

Now she’s hitting the books in an official setting following her summer tour, called the “Oral Fixation,” and is fixating her attention instead on prehistoric civilization.  A seemless and understandable transition, no doubt.

The course lecturer, Robert Cleve, said he didn’t know who Shakira was, and didn’t find out until the end.  "She told me she was visiting from Colombia and that she was just doing this for her own enlightenment and enjoyment," he said. "She looked like just an ordinary student. She wasn't flamboyant ... she didn't act like a big celebrity or anything."

Shakira would even stay after class to discuss the material with Cleve.  "I was really impressed with how intelligent she was," he said.
