Intel Acquires Game Development Tools Provider Havok

Santa Clara, Calif. - Intel announced late on Friday that it will acquire Havok, a developer of software and services used by creators in the game and movie industries, for an undisclosed sum.

Founded in 1998, Dublin, Ireland-based Havok offers tools including a physics engine used by game developers and digital animators.

Havok's technology has been used in the creation of games including "BioShock" and "Halo 2," and films such as "The Matrix" and "Charlie and the Chocolate Factory."

The company will operate as an independent business within Intel.

"Havok is a proven leader in physics technology for gaming and digital content, and will become a key element of Intel's visual computing and graphics efforts," said Renee J. James, Intel vice president and general manager of the company's software and solutions group.
