Cupertino, Calif. - Apple plans to nearly double production of its iPhone in the fourth quarter, TheStreet.com reported, citing people familiar with the company.

The report said Apple now plans to produce 2.7 million iPhones in the fourth quarter, nearly double the 1.5 million previously expected; that would make for total 2007 output of 4.8 million units, up from the previously stated goal of 3.6 million.

In related news, Apple announced on Wednesday that Deutsche Telekom's T-Mobile will be the official iPhone carrier in Germany.

The 8GB iPhone will cost about $557 when it goes on sale there on Nov. 9.

German iPhone owners will also be able to browse and purchase music from the iTunes Wi-Fi Music Store; T-Mobile operates 8,600 Wi-Fi HotSpots in Germany.
