San Diego - Slacker, the developer of a Wi-Fi-enabled portable media player and corresponding personal radio service, announced on Thursday that it has signed deals to license tracks from major labels EMI, Universal Music and Warner Music for its service. The company, which already had a deal in place with Sony BMG, also signed with independents including Beggars Group, Matador, IRIS, Ubiquity and Sanctuary. San Diego-based Slacker currently only offers a beta version of its free, ad-supported basic online service, which features 100 pre-programmed stations and also lets users create their own. The company has yet to launch its Wi-Fi player, or a planned premium version of its online service.
